Vigilare Vol. #1 Review



The secret to a tasteful dinner party is mastering the art of cooking. By measuring and combining the right amount of ingredients, a scrumptious masterpiece is ready to be devoured. If an ingredient is omitted, or if the amount fluctuates too much or too little, it throws off the recipe, and the end results in a flop.  However, if everything is done correctly with precision, the dinner bash is the topic of conversation for weeks to come. The same holds true in storytelling. If there’s the exact amount of oppositions in a story line then the outcome is favorably digested.

Brooklyn James serves up a sexy superhero story leaving her audience hungry for more. She crafts a recipe of a supernatural thriller that lures her reader’s attention from page one in her second novel, Vigilare. After combining the ingredients of paranormal, romance, feminism, intelligence, strength, superiority, and humanity, James leaves her reader’s wondering if there’s one, two, or three vigilare(s) in the first volume of this trilogy chef-d'oeuvre.

 Once the ingredients are mixed together, the pressure cooker is preheated to an excruciating temperature leaving the audience in suspense of Detectives DeLuca and Gronkowski’s ability to solve a string of rapes and murders in the town of Vanguard. The perfect blend of romance combined with a sprinkle of paranormal powers, and a dash of humanity cleverly exceeds any predictions of a good read.


Vigilare, the first in this trilogy, has the perfect amount of suspense and mystery leaving reader’s to synthesize, investigate and reveal the opposition of good vs. evil between pedophiles and the superhero James creates as the vigilare. With clever writing, scientific research, and the ability to tell a story, James expands herself as an artist from one genre of writing to another.

  Brooklyn James not only challenges herself as a storyteller in her newest release,  Just Shelb y   (2020), but she challenges her readers with a writing style that reveals a mysterious plot of  whodunnit  at the end.    Just Shelby  may not be everyone’s flavor of a read in 2020 while we’re pausing in the quarantine life as it is a slower read told with dual perspectives; however, slow doesn’t equate to poor art; it’s a matter of taste and delight.
